How to Help Your Local Animal Shelter

Cadettes from Girl Scout Troop 75665 helped their local shelter, Humane Society of Macomb, by making pet blankets and toys. They also spent time volunteering at the shelter making enrichment activities and learning what is needed for the shelter to care for the animals.

Directions on how to make a blanket

• Cut two pieces of fleece the same size.
• Cut a square out of each corner of the blanket. This will help with the tying process later.
• Cut 2-4 inch strip on all four sides of the blanket. Try and keep them straight and even.
• After cutting the stripes, tie each strip of the two blankets together and double knot.

This is an easy and fun way to make a cozy blanket for the animals.
